Laugavegur Highland Walking Trail, Iceland, seven nights from £1390 per person

Availability: June-September

Experience wild open spaces and nature at its most raw and powerful on this small guided walking trip. On the Laugavegur Trail you will encounter volcanoes, lava fields, hot springs, mud pools, waterfalls, mountain lakes, canyons and wooded valleys. The trip kicks off in the world’s most northerly capital, Reykjavik, and the walking trail begins in the spectacular highland region with its colourful rhyolite peaks, deep gorges and yellow mountain ridges. Highlights of the walk also include the black deserts of Maelifellssandur, outstanding views across glaciers and volcanoes – including Eyjafjallajokull – the famous ash cloud volcano and walking alongside the Markarfjlot canyon which plunges to a depth of 200m at the foot of Hattfell volcano. This iconic walk ends at the wooded valley of the Norse God of thunder; ‘Thorsmork’ but the trip returns to Reykjavik for another two nights with the chance to explore the Golden Circle or take a whale watching boat out into the bay.

The price includes accommodation and breakfasts, five lunches and four dinners and daily luggage transfers. Guests also receive maps, an information pack, transfers and the services of an expert walking guide, who will bring this fascinating country and its amazing geology to life.
