Amsterdam weather can be summed up as chilly in winter and pleasant, though rarely scorching, in summer but with a fair bit more rain than for example London .
Due to it’s position it can however be significantly warmer in winter then some other Dutch cities such as Hilversum which is only about 15 miles away but can be up to 7°C cooler. This is due to the meteorological phenomenon known the “urban heat island” effect. The highest temperature recorded in Amsterdam is 34.5°C in August and the lowest is -15.4 in both December and January. The sunniest month is July with 217 hours of sunshine on average. Snow is not uncommon, with the average being 26 days a year.
So what are the best months to visit Amsterdam? April is definitely the driest month with July and October the wettest but as a city that is big on sightseeing, the city is a wonderful year round destination though be prepared for the Amsterdam weather to be a mite unpredictable!
