London weather has an undeservedly bad reputation. Images of dense fogs and pouring rain, thick clouds and a total absence of sun are conjured up, particularly by North American visitors. In fact London’s climate is very healthy and it doesn’t suffer the extremes of temperature that even New York can experience at the height of winter or summer. Surprisingly London is slightly warmer in winter than Paris and gets slightly less rain. July is very much drier than Paris, though August is slightly wetter. Despite this the London weather is a constant theme of conversation amongst the natives and everyone complains about the transport companies’ inability to cope with even minor meteorological aberrations. The coldest months are January and February but cold snaps can linger till April and despite the familiar “April Showers”, May and June are both in fact a little bit wetter than April
