Truffle Hunting & Wine Weekend in the Rhône Valley
Wine & travel experts 3D Wines will host its truffle hunting weekend in the Rhône Valley with adventures to tantalize every gourmet. This authentic artisanal experience is hosted by 3D Wines and the Bouchard family at Domaine des Grands Devers, high in the hills near Valréas in the northern Côtes du Rhône. Visit the largest truffle market, and then join a tutored group hunt for the elusive black truffle within the domaine’s oak wood. Guests are rewarded with a sumptuous truffle dinner at the domaine. Visit the Saurel family at Montirius, the fascinating biodynamic vineyard that produces 3D’s exclusive club Gigondas and Vacqueyras wines, then dine at the beautiful Château Rochegude, matching its menu to the renowned wines of Montirius.

Enjoy some of her most spellbinding countryside up in the hills of the Rhône region. The mysterious world of truffle trading in Richerenches is fascinating. This small medieval village is the home of the largest truffle market in Europe where up to 800kg of truffles are traded each week. Montélimar nougat, honey, cheeses and ham are other specialities. The guide then takes you away from the bustling market to a tree-lined street along the northern walls. Here is where the real truffle merchants deal from the back of their cars and vans, negotiating prices with other agents and restaurateurs from all over France; all cloaked in the intoxicating aroma of these black gems – musk, earth, and incense. Astronomical prices can be paid for the best quality.
Visit Domaine des Grands Devers, remotely situated in the hills surrounded by vines, pine trees, truffle oaks and lavender. Lunch is served on trays made from wine box lids accompanied with the Bouchard family domaine’s Côtes du Rhône.
The hunt for truffles is led by Paul-Henri, Marc and his truffle-hunting Labrador cross, Ulysse. In 2014, the 3D-hosted group found over 30 truffles. These are prized Winter Black Truffles (tuber brumale), similar to the world-famous Périgord truffle.

Dinner comprises five magnificent courses – example menu: Jerusalem artichoke soup with jus de truffé and truffles, guinea fowl with broad bean and white truffle risotto, followed by Brillat-Savarin and Mont d’Or aux truffés cheese and dessert.
The next day, visit the biodynamic domaine Montirius in the beautiful Vacqueyras and Gigondas region, where the Dentelles de Montmirail offer a stunning backdrop.
Lunch is at the stunning Château de Rochegude where the chef prepares a menu to match the Montirius wines.
